Which travel documents do I need?

For Italian citizens a valid passport is essential, along with an annual revenue stamp. It is always requested a passport validity from 3 to 6 months after the due return date (please check this with the related embassies before travel). The ones travelling to Guadalupa and Martinica with direct flights from Paris need only the identity card, but it is strongly recommended to bring also the passport anyway.

At present, when this article has been published, there are no entry permits or vaccinations required. For travels which include stay or crossing of either U.S.A, San Juan de Portorico and the American Virgin Islands (St.Thomas, St.John and St.Croix), all passengers (minors included) must possess one of these passports:

- optical reading passport (if made or renewed before the 26/10/2005

- optical reading passport with digital photo ID (if made or renewed between 26/10/2005 and 25/10/2006)

- electronic passport (if made or renewed since 26/10/2006)

- the passport must have, moreover, a validity exceeding 6 months from the U.S.A. departure date.

 

As requested from the U.S.A. entry permits, if these conditions aren't met, you will prior need to get an entry permit from an U.S.A consolate.

 

Do I have to do some vaccination?

At present, when this article has been published there are no vaccinations required.

 

What should I put in my luggage?

All year long a seaside/summer type of clothes can be worn, be sure to take also sweaters and some smarter clothing for the evening. An autumn type coat (or k-way) may come in useful for the sporadic rainfalls. Do not forget hats, sun protection, sunglasses, intestinal disinfectant and spray against mosquitos.

 

Which is the local time?

The time is 5 hours earlier than Italy (6 hours with the daylight saving time), apart from Bahamas, Turks and Caicos where it is always 6 hours earlier.

 

Are all credit cards accepted?

It is recommended to get a credit card from one of the most important societies (American Express, Diners or CartaSI/Visa). It is often required in hotels as a guarantee and not having one may be a nuisance, as then a cash deposit may be requested in substitution for the card.
